Pacuare Lodge

Eco Lodges

Since JULY 2011

Nestled in Costa Rica's lush rainforest, Pacuare Lodge prioritises Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce by protecting biodiversity, supporting local communities, celebrating cultural heritage, and ensuring economic viability. Pacuare’s commitment to these principles creates an unparalleled eco-tourism experience.

Part of the small and Costa Rican-owned Böëna Wilderness Lodges group, Pacuare Lodge offers an immersive experience that blends adventure with sustainability. Biophilic principles ensure that the lodge infrastructure doesn’t negatively impact wildlife, including the use of natural ventilation instead of air conditioning, and natural lighting. Huge investment in renewables minimises the carbon footprint, while wildlife protection and regeneration initiatives protect over 800 hectares of primary rainforest. Community initiatives empower local people through education and employment opportunities, and Indigenous experiences generate an important understanding of local culture.

CONSERVATION

Actively involved in the endangered Jaguar Study led by one of Latin America’s top jaguar experts.

100% of electricity comes from clean energy generated by three hydroelectric turbines and 204 solar panels.

COMMUNITY

Employees mostly come from nearby communities such as the Nairi Awari Indigenous Reserve, Bajos del Tigre, Linda Vista, Santa Marta and other communities between the towns of Turrialba and Siquirres.

An environmental program for local schools raises awareness about protecting the environment and having a balanced relationship with nature.

CULTURE

Economic and in-kind support to the Nairi Awari Indigenous group (part of Cabecar), including offering a space and resources to promote their art and techniques and the Cabecar Hike Experience.

Farm-to-table cuisine and traditional Costa Rican dishes are served every day.

COMMERCE

The Rural Experience invites guests to visit the Bajo del Tigre community and experience their traditional way of life while providing economic support to more local people.

Local products, like chocolates and laundry bags handmade by the neighbouring Tirrases community are for sale at the lodge.
