Tour Operator, Family, Luxury, Adventure, Private Tours

member since june 2021

Operating on two leading principles: transparency and purpose, Niarra Travel is a UK-based tour operator that specialises in creating unforgettable trips to inspiring places while directing more tourism revenue to the people and communities protecting our increasingly fragile natural world. In doing so, we hope to send a ripple of change throughout the industry.

Niarra’s business model focuses on addressing the critical issue of economic leakage by committing to taking only what we need from our African product partners and charging our clients a transparent service fee. Anything above that remains in the destination to go towards product partners’ community, conservation, cultural projects or foundations. We believe more money must remain in the destination because it is the people, businesses and foundations within the destination that can have the most impact socio-economically and environmentally.

CONSERVATION

Through Niarra’s partnership with The Safari Collection, funds have been used to ear-notch and GPS tag 13 black rhino in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, as well for veterinary supplies used for the translocation of 21 giraffes.

A partnership with Volcanoes Safaris resulted in funds being allocated to the purchase of 0.57 acres of buffer land at Kyambura, further protecting and extending the Kyambura ecosystem in Uganda, home to critically endangered chimpanzees and other wildlife.

COMMUNITY

Fully funding the construction of a playground at Khomanani Daycare in South Africa, a rural school attended by just under 100 children under the age of four and supported by &Beyond’s Africa Foundation.

Sponsored eight trainees at Volcanoes Safaris’ Bwindi Bar in Uganda, The bar provides a practical training institution for local disadvantaged youths living near the Bwindi National Park in Buhoma.

CULTURE

Niarra has sponsored 2 out of 8 eight children from the Westgate Community, who were offered a scholarship to go to secondary school under The Safari Collection’s Conservation Scholarships Programme.

Through partnership with the Sarara Foundation, funds were used to support the Milk-to-Market programme, which encourages women to sell goat milk to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, creating new revenue streams for the local community based on traditional rural practices.

COMMERCE

Niarra takes only 10% commission (half or less than the status quo) from our African product partners. When we are offered a higher percentage, we give the product partner everything above 10% commission back, to go towards their conservation, community and cultural projects or foundations.

Between September 2020 and May 2024, we have managed to leave GBP£411,000 in destinations to date.
