Hosting one of the largest resident marine biologist teams in the nation, the Maldives Underwater Initiative by Six Senses Laamu (MUI) conducts meaningful marine conservation through research, education, and community outreach.

As the only 5-star resort in the southern Maldives' Laamu Atoll, Six Senses Laamu embraces its responsibility towards the local community and environment. Guided by the Six Senses core value of ‘Local Sensitivity, Global Sensibility,’ the resort’s sustainability strategy includes energy saving, waste reduction, reef and seagrass protection, and wildlife conservation. The resort’s 94 villas are designed in harmony with the island’s natural beauty, using local and sustainably sourced materials. Guests can enjoy culinary delights made from produce grown in the island's Organic Garden and support the local community by dining on local reef fish sourced through the resort’s sustainable fishing program.

Six Senses Laamu’s Highlights

Marine conservation and education. The Sea Hub of Environmental Learning in Laamu (SHELL) is a marine science research and education center, blending local research with interactive exhibits and augmented reality. The SHELL is an engaging, immersive experience into the underwater world of Laamu Atoll.
Maldives Underwater Initiative by Six Senses Laamu. MUI is a collaboration of 10 marine biologists from the resort and three partner NGOs: Manta Trust, Blue Marine Foundation and Olive Ridley Project. Together, the MUI team conducts meaningful conservation through its three pillars of Research, Education and Community engagement. MUI leads a number of ocean-based educational activities, such as a complimentary daily guided house reef snorkel, sunset dolphin cruise and the Junior Marine Biology program for budding scientists.
Eat With Six Senses. Guests can reconnect with themselves and nature through the Eat With Six Senses program, guided by the principles of Natural Ingredients, Local and Sustainable, and Less is More. This ensures that food is not only nutritious but also delicious, allowing guests to enjoy both and depart feeling rejuvenated. Six Senses Laamu is also home to the country’s first sustainable fisher-resort program, Laamaseelu Masveriya, guaranteeing that reef fish served are locally and sustainably caught. For those with a sweet tooth, guests can savor our house-made chocolate and choose from 58 flavors of ice cream and sorbet.
