SIARGAO ISLAND, PHILIPPINES

Nay Palad Hideaway

Marine Eco Lodges

Since May 2016

Siargao Island's terrestrial, wetland, and marine ecosystems and its neighboring islets have been designated as protected areas called Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape  (SIPLAS). At the southeastern tip of the island is Nay Palad Hideaway, a key player in safeguarding the mangroves, ocean, and wildlife that are exclusive to this region of the Philippines.

Nay Palad Hideaway offers a unique barefoot living experience, where guests immerse in nature alongside loved ones. Designer Daniel Pouzet envisioned a destination blended with Siargao's rich culture and untamed surroundings. A sustainable ethos is woven into every aspect of the guest experience, from Filipino design elements and traditional spa treatments to locally crafted gifts, organic farming practices, and seasonal menus. Central to Nay Palad's mission is the protection of marine habitats, a commitment driving their conservation goals. Along with Dekeyser & Friends Foundation, the resort engages in community outreach focused on sustainability-driven projects.

CONSERVATION

Protection of the 104-hectare ancient mangroves that the resort faces.

Being part of the Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS), Nay Palad Hideaway promotes coral reef rehabilitation, beach forests, protection of seagrass habitats, and the protection of rare and endangered species.

COMMUNITY

Nay Palad Hideaway supports Dekeyser & Friends’ Compostela Village Project in Cebu, the Philippines, helping disadvantaged families break the cycle of poverty and create sustainable livelihoods through education, empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

Local sourcing is a huge priority. The resort was built by locals using local materials, and chefs work closely with local fishers and foragers using ingredients from the island where possible. Spa treatments are carried out by local practitioners using traditional methods.

CULTURE

Nay Palad Hideaway promotes local weavers and craftsmen, whose work can be seen in the resort’s furnishings and architecture. Sustainable materials are used whenever possible. For instance, banana leaf fibre is used in the resort’s cushions.

The resort’s Barefoot Living philosophy, which encompasses the aesthetics, culture, and activities at the resort, creates a unique opportunity for guests of all ages to reconnect with the basics: nature, culture, and community.

COMMERCE

Nay Palad Hideaway supports local businesses that offer the hospitality and quality guests expect from the resort.

The resort shop carries a range of products that are “Made with Love in Compostela,” a sustainable village project managed by the Dekeyser & Friends Foundation.
